Dan Sweet, club President

I’ve been a climber, swimmer, and mountain biker for many years. Life on the coast has simplified things, and now with great MTB trails ridable any day of the year, the only thing I need is my bike. My background includes acting as director of a building industry group promoting sustainable practices and lobbying on resource protection, as well as years of volunteer organizing. What drives my commitment is my love of the local trails, and the camaraderie that the Mendocino riding community offers.

Mountain biking occupies a significant part of my life in the best way possible and like most bikers, I try to get out there as much as I can. I grew up on the coast and raised three kids here (two mountain bikers). I have been coaching the high school mountain bike team for the last eight years. Professionally I’m a geologist and environmental regulator. I’m a firm believer in the power of mountain biking to bring community together.

Jason Hurst, Treasurer

Easing into “over the hill” I started MTB riding in 2015 and now enjoy all types of pedaling. This is my third stint a non-profit treasurer serving additionally for the Coast Youth Soccer League and Mendo County Lodging Association. I also served on the finance committee of the Mendo Coast Botanical Garden as an MCRPD Board Member. By day I’m in Restaurant/Hospitality and by night a high school sports official (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball/Softball). I love to travel and search for places to ride bikes.

Board Member Marc Jensen

Marc Jensen, Trail Boss

Marc and his wife Monique started mountain biking in the mid 80’s even before front shocks were a thing on bikes.  In service of both public health and global warming he taught kids bike safety as a League of American Bicyclist instructor in the Bay area. For over a decade he helped middle school kids become more competent using their bikes to ride to school.  He has been a longtime advocate for pedestrian and bike safety in the Bay Area and helped start California Walks, a 501c3 that advocates for pedestrian safety in the state.  He has written grants for sidewalks in the Bay Area and helped push for bike lanes and other safety facilities.

Marc has helped build trails with the Santa Cruz Trail Stewards including helping to build the “Flow Trail” in the Soquel Demonstration forest.  Since retiring in 2018 he has enjoyed helping the rest of the trail crew build the mountain bike trail network in Mendocino. Per Marc, “The joy and reward of building mountain bike trails here in Mendocino is not just for personal enjoyment but service to the larger community.  Silent sports in nature are essential not just physical health but mental health and well-being.”

Elk school alumnus and a recovering ball sport addict who always knew the score, I now spend my time biking and running our trails for no particular reason at all. Being a member of our volunteer trail crew I've appreciated the camaraderie that has come from a shared love of outdoor recreation, and a willingness to labor for no personal financial gain. I've witnessed the improvement of our existing trails, and the growth of our trail network with new projects, and I look forward to seeing that trend continue. I've been digging in the dirt for as long as I can remember, and there are some things that aren't meant to be outgrown.

Shortly after teaching myself how to ride a second hand Schwinn BMX bike at age 6, I picked up tools from dads garage and starting fixing bikes. I was more into taking stuff apart than fixing stuff in the early years, but by age 15 I started working in a bike shop. A year later I bought my first mountain bike and the rest, as they say, is history. It was apparent soon that I would never be the fastest on the XC race tracks, so I might as well be the best at wrenching. Over thirty years after my first bike shop job, I’m still fixing bikes at the highest level of competition, as well as for the neighborhood kids. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than hearing back from a customer after they’ve completed their ride after I fixed their bike and they’re full of stoke that the bike worked and didn’t make noise. I enjoy fixing problems others cannot. I equally enjoy shredding some singletrack and building a nice set of wheels. I was lucky enough to move to the coast in 2016 after visiting for ten years. Paradise. Doesn’t get much better than here.

Myke is the head coach of the Mendocino Composites, youth MTB race team. Myke previously was president of the club, and is now graciously acting as our interim club Secretary.
